Arnos Vale Cemetery

Just a short distance from Bristol city centre, this unforgettable venue has the benefit of being easily accessible, intimate, peaceful and is very sheltered. Situated amongst vibrant wildflowers and extensive woodlands, their three characteristic venues can be mixed and matched to create your perfect day. This combined with their professional in-house caterers, Kate's Kitchen, means that you can be assured that your big day is taken care of.

The Underwood Centre is the venue of choice for those after a laid back, festival style wedding surrounded by the natural beauty of our woodland eco-system. The Anglican chapel is a perfect location for a traditional Church of England marriage service, formal wedding breakfast and lavish evening reception. The more recently renovated Spielman Centre is in an idyllic position for relaxed and personal civil wedding and partnership ceremonies. All three of these distinctive venues can be combined to make Arnos Vale the complete location for your Bristol wedding.

History

Queen Victoria had only recently succeeded to the throne when this gorgeous garden cemetery was opened in 1839. Both the Chapel and the Gate Lodges at Arnos Vale are listed buildings, and the estate contains an impressive series of 25 Grade-II listed monuments.

In 1987, alarmed by news that the private owner of the Cemetery had announced plans to clear and commercially develop a large section of the Cemetery, there was a huge campaign to secure a safe future for Arnos Vale, supported by the Bristol council, Bristol citizens and many people worldwide. The group that initiated the campaign later became known as the Friends of Arnos Vale, who continue to invaluably work to secure the cemetery's future, as a registered charitable trust.

Woodland Weddings

Discover Bristol's only true licensed woodland wedding venue in the heart of the city. Surrounded by tranquil beauty and birdsong, the wooden beamed Underwood Centre brings couples face-to-face with nature. This rustic setting is the perfect location for laid back woodland receptions, with toasted marshmallows, drinks and BBQs making the occasion even more memorable for 2-80 guests!

Anglican Chapel

The stunning, light and airy Chapel was originally built in 1839 and has recently been lovingly restored to its former glory. Natural light streams into this peaceful chapel, which features an ornate bell tower, and magnificent steps offering a perfect backdrop for wedding photographs. The chapel has exceptional acoustics, and is licensed for a religious Anglican marriage service, and/or wedding breakfasts accommodating up to 100 guests.

Evening Reception Capacity – 120 guests

Spielman Centre

Constructed in 1839 as a Non-Conformist Chapel, this unusual building is reminiscent of a grand classical Greek temple. During a recent renovation, a tasteful glass pavilion (which houses our onsite cafe) and an outdoor central terrace were added to the picturesque building, now licensed to host civil marriage and partnership ceremonies for up to 80 guests.

Civil Ceremony Capacity – 90 guests

Wedding Breakfast Capacity – 70 guests

Reception Capacity(including the use of the Atrium café) – 140 guests

She was so helpful leading up to the big day in helping answer all our questions, listening to exactly what we wanted and helping us not have to worry about a thing! Our wedding day at Arnos Vale was just perfect - we got married in the Underwood Centre which it and its surroundings just simply spoke for itself! The sun shone, everything just flowed and Kat and her team looked after us all so well. The food from Kate's kitchen was delicious and complimented by all of our guests!     If you are looking for somewhere a little bit different in a beautiful natural rustic setting bathed in the dappled sunshine coming through the trees and filled with bird song then look no further. Tranquil, relaxing calming not words usually associated with wedding venues but so true of the Underwood Centre at Arnos Vale.

    Kat, the wedding co-ordinator, was highly professional, caring, calm and reassuring as were all the staff that we had dealings with at Arnos Vale. We were kept informed at all stages of the planning and made to feel that the whole aim of the team was to make our day as special and relaxed as possible. Thank you Kat and Shane it was a truly magical day.

    Couldn't recommend this venue more for a wedding in a woodland, in the centre of Bristol. The Underwood is such an intimate place to hold a ceremony with all your loved ones close by, and the Spielman centre for the reception is wonderful. Having the use of the cafe/bar area is great for people to have a chat and a break from dancing!

    Kat really made our day, and in the lead up, no query seemed to be too much. It was very reassuring to have Kat there on the day, and I'm sure she did a lot more than we even realised. The whole experience was very relaxed, and we loved that we had scope to add as many personal touches as we could.

    If we could do it again, it would be here...
