History

The grandiose Gothic mansion effortlessly blends Victorian and Tudor architectural fashion with modern facilities. Modified and enlarged by architect Hugh Mackintosh during the 1920s, east and west wings were added, creating a total of 200 bedrooms.

The history of the estate spans much further back. The famous Blackfriars Arch, dating to the earlier 13th century, was recently rediscovered, shrouded by trees within the grounds, just one of the historic wonders found at the venue. Add to this the cedar tree reputedly planted in the 16th century by Queen Elizabeth I.

The Terrace Suite

The Terrace Suite is a beautiful location for your wedding breakfast and evening reception. You and your guests will be treated to first class views stretching across the stunning grounds. Inside the room has sculpted ceilings, natural light and access to a private patio. There is an option to add a state of the art garden marquee directly to The Terrace Suite should your numbers require.

The Secret Garden

For a truly breath taking wedding ceremony book The Secret Garden. This magical area includes the wedding pavilion which is licensed for civil ceremonies. Built on original 17th century rose arbour mound steps, this enchanting private area can host up to 150 of your guests. If the British weather fails to impress on the day then there will be an alternative area reserved within the hotel for you to say your vows.

The Cedar Suite

The Cedar Suite is a ground floor suite with the capacity of 150 for a wedding breakfast. It boasts period features including sculpted ceilings and chandeliers, it also has stain glass windows features in the ceiling. It also has contemporary touches with calm grey colours. It has a wonderful bay window with sweeping views. It also a two entrances.

Catering

The in-house catering team and kitchen brigade are able to provide utterly delicious and delectable cuisine. You will be invited to a menu tasting three months prior to your wedding to discuss your wedding food choices in more detail.
