Garthmyl Hall

Garthmyl Hall is a luxury wedding venue, located in Mid Wales with couples venturing from all over the country to experience their extraordinary setting and wedding facilities. Set within five acres of sensational grounds, this wedding venue provides everything you'll need to host your entire wedding day from start to finish. There are plenty of locations both inside and outside to say your vows, or alternatively there are two beautiful local churches in Montgomery and Berriew. Eat drink and be merry in either The Ballroom or the marquee. In the summer months pull up the marquee sides for an alfresco experience into the early hours, sipping cocktails and making memories.

History

Originally built in 1859 by architect James K Colling for Major-General Gold, Garthmyl Hall is a testament to his design. The terracotta exterior complements the lavish interior. The Hall was bought by Julia and her family in 2015, where it undertook an extensive restoration project. Julia is passionate about weddings, having been in the industry for many years.

Facilities

The facilities at Garthmyl Hall are second to none. The spaces are traditional with a side serving of quirky. Infact the whole venue has managed to achieve this enchanting mix, one which adds the joie de vivre to any wedding.

Summer House

Step into the Summer House and feel yourself relax into its warmth. The space is rustic by nature with grape vines and exceptional views spanning the gardens and courtyard. The glass roof ensures sunlight illuminates the space with a natural glow, ready for you to make your entrance down the aisle. As well as providing an endearing location to say your vows, The Summer House can also host intimate dinners, BBQ's and even a children's entertainment space for the big day.

Walled Garden

The Walled Garden has been restored, taking inspiration from the Secret Garden and the gardens at Aberglasney in Carmarthen. If you'd like to say your vows surrounded by bird call with the floral scents of the garden filling the air, then look no further.

The Ballroom

The Ballroom's colour palette of blush, sage, gold and marble is simply divine. Classy, elegant and stylish, a dreamy backdrop to any wedding ceremony or feast. The room has a large antique crystal chandelier along with French doors leading out to the marquee.

The semi-permanent marquee is attached to The Ballroom and accessed via three large French doors. The sides of the marquee are fully removable, perfect for a al fresco dining experience.

Catering and drinks

At Garthmyl Hall, food is a big deal. They work with three carefully selected caterers who provide a range of cuisine to suit your taste. A bespoke menu is curated, encompassing everything you desire. We can assure you there will be lots of happy smiley faces with content tummies! Anything is possible, from a 5-course tasting menu to an informal BBQ, picnic or hog roast, your wish is their command.

What goes hand in hand with delicious food? A fine selection of dinks of course. There are three bars throughout the property, each with a different style and ambience. The Gentleman's Bar is close proximity to the Ballroom and Marquee, perfect for a pre ceremony drink to settle the nerves. The Cellar Bar is a fantastic location to impress your guests with cocktails, whereas the Summer House bar is ideal for a drinks reception bathed in the summer sun. Drinks packages are personalised to your requirements and can even include a bespoke cocktail.

Guest accommodation

There are ten luxurious bedrooms which can accommodate up to 21 guests. Each room is uniquely designed with individual furnishings and plenty of personal touches. Locally produced chocolates and Molton Brown toiletries come as standard in this luxe accommodation, ready to wow your guests. Additional guest accommodation is available in the converted stables for 24 guests. Please note the stables are not included within the hire charge and will be extra.

The Honeymoon Suite

Privately located in its own wing, the honeymoon suite is the perfect end to your wedding day. With its super king size bed, plush antique furnishings, dressing tables and chandeliers you'll be surrounded by exquisite luxury and comfort. There is also a private dressing room with a 7ft mirror and dressing table, the ultimate place to freshen up throughout the big day. Downstairs there is a humungous bathroom with a deluxe bath, double vanity and beautiful floral mural.

    No superlatives are sufficient in describing the professionalism and perfection of Garthmyl Hall for a wedding.
    Despite 2 Covid cancellations, Garthmyl Hall remained flexible and focused throughout the planning.
    Despite a change of Planner in the process, the new planner, Heather, embraced our specific-needs and quickly built our trust. Heather is the perfect combination of efficiency, calming demeanour and personality.
    Everything, from the outstanding venue, the support you receive, to the attention to detail, to the cooperation of all the team, Garthmyl is just the perfect wedding venue.

    I honestly couldn't recommend Garthmyl enough, each and every one of the team will always be part of our special memories.

    I might be biased in commenting that our wedding was one of dreams, but it really was magical, and it was all made possible by Heather, Julia and the amazing team they have at Garthmyl.

    A 5 star review for this place just isn't enough. The hall, accommodation & grounds are truly beautiful.

    Heathers help, support and attention to detail throughout our wedding preparation and on the day was what every bride hopes for. Nothing was too much to ask, and every element was undertaken seamlessly.

    The whole teams friendly attitude just makes you want them to join your wedding party as guests - yes they're that lovely!

    Special shout out to Andy, the incredible bbq and breakfast chef, the food was perfection.

    Also a shout out to Darren who made our pre wedding outside bbq set up possible, even when weather wasn't on our side!

    I honestly couldn't recommend Garthmyl enough, each and every one of the team will always be part of our special memories.

    It's hard to put into words just how incredible Julia and her team were throughout all of the planning and entire weekend of our wedding in May this year. This review won't do it justice but we'll try!

    From the minute we went to visit Garthmyl Hall we knew it was the right venue for us. We knew we wanted a venue where loads of our friends and family could stay for the weekend, everyone would feel at home and we had flexibility to choose the suppliers we wanted. Garthmyl Hall offers all of this with their stunning accommodation - all of the rooms in the main hall are gorgeous with en suite bathrooms and individually decorated, and the stables accommodation is just beautiful. All of the downstairs rooms in the hall are designed gorgeously and the grounds are incredible.

    Julia was always on hand in the planning of the wedding, helping to avert any crisis, answering any random questions and can recommend so many amazing suppliers or you can choose your own - for local suppliers we used Tipples for table and crockery hire, Pheasant Botanica for flowers, ESL for lighting and speakers, Pedal and Push for pizzas, Helena Restall makeup and Tallulah's for catering - and we would recommend all of them a million times over, as well as all the suppliers that travelled slightly further afield for us!

    We had a pizza night on the Friday (provided by Pedal and Push - also thoroughly recommend!!) with big firepits and the summerhouse bar open for drinks for everyone staying in the hall and stables. Such an amazing night to get excited with everyone and catch up with people the night before the big day. On the morning of the wedding I got ready with the bridesmaids and my mum and mother in law in the bridal suite and there was more than enough room for 7 of us plus videographer, photographer, 2 hair stylists and a makeup artist. I felt so calm getting ready on the morning of the wedding, knowing Julia and her amazing team were coordinating everything behind the scenes and I didn't have to worry about a thing - we also had a stylist (One Splendid Day) who did all of the styling of the ballroom and marquee etc - very much recommend doing this/seeing if your florist will provide this service for tables. It is worth every penny of the extra cost for you to be able to relax and enjoy. the weekend with your friends and family and not having to worry about setting up anything! The rest of our family had a breakfast in the dining room provided by Garthmyl Hall and the staff brought us up bacon sandwiches and orange juice/coffees while we were getting ready.

    Before my husband/groomsmen/dads etc left for the church they met in the bar and had a pint and put on their buttonholes. We got married at the church in Berriew which is a 5 minutes drive from the hall and is a beautiful church with a gorgeous church yard.

    We had our reception drinks in the walled garden/on the back lawn, followed by our meal in the marquee - we were so lucky with the weather and had all of the sides open which was just gorgeous. After the meal Julia and her team turned the marquee around for the evening while our guests went outside for cocktails around the firepits. We used the ballroom as a lounge area with the Garthmyl Hall sofas and Geoff the Giraffe (had to be done), a photobooth corner and a cheese table. We had the band and DJ set up in the marquee with the dance floor laid out by the hall which worked perfectly. The staff were amazing all day of the wedding moving flowers around to make sure they were still used beautifully, making sure there was enough wine on the tables, toast glasses topped up and if there was any crisis I can't say we heard about it or if we did there was already a solution so we didn't need to worry. Holly even gave two of my friends a lift back to their hotel at 3 in the morning when they had no idea of the time all night and totally missed their taxi lol. (Legend - we love you Holly.)

    On Sunday morning the hall set up the marquee again for a buffet brunch, again making use of the flowers from the weekend which were gorgeous. We then had a chilled day and BBQ in the evening with friends and family - some who weren't staying with us still came back for it too. The food was INCREDIBLE - best bbq we'd ever eaten and SO MANY TYPES OF CHICKEN KEBAB. Andy is the BBQ king. It started to rain so we moved into the marquee, then optimistically moved outside to the firepits again for a singsong, to then be forced into the summerhouse due to downpours. We stayed in the summerhouse until midnight singing and dancing then moved to the ballroom where we had another party until 3am - the hall is so big that no one who went to bed earlier even realised we were up so late! The staff were amazing the whole time, running the bar, putting out our leftover cheeseboard from the wedding then helping us move it all in to the ballroom and leaving us to it when it was time for them to go home.

    If you want the kind of wedding where you can make it truly your own, feeling like you've just got all of your friends and family together at a big house for an EPIC weekend with the most attentive, fun and chilled out staff, then Garthmyl Hall is the place for you. Even if everyone has to travel and stay in the area like our friends and family did for it, they will all say it was worth it. Julia, and all of the staff at Garthmyl hall we cannot thank you enough. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. You are absolutely incredible and deserve a million awards for how you run your weddings and events. We wish we could do our wedding all over again and would pick you all to run it for us all over again.

    Where do we even begin?!

    As soon as we visited Garthmyl Hall, we instantly fell in love with its charm. The beautiful setting and gardens make it hard to believe that you're not abroad! Every corner of the hall has been carefully designed. The decor is classic with modern touches, and every detail is perfect. We've had so many positive comments from guests with many saying it's the best wedding venue they've ever been to! If you choose to hire the Stables for additional accommodation, you won't be disappointed. Just like the hall, the rooms are faultless and Julia's creativity and interior design have given them so much character.

    You can hire Garthmyl Hall for the entire weekend, arriving on the Friday afternoon before the wedding and leaving on the Sunday afternoon. Everyone tells you how fast time flies on your wedding day, so you really want to make the most of it and this was a huge deciding factor for us when considering our wedding venue. Being able to spend extra time with our closest family and friends the night before the wedding and having a debrief over breakfast the next day was so special, and part of what makes Garthmyl Hall so unique!

    Our first wedding date was booked in April 2020, but due to the pandemic we had to make the heartbreaking decision to postpone. I can't explain how incredible Julia and the team were throughout the pandemic and the countless rearrangements we had to make. We finally had our special day (fourth time lucky!) on 26th February 2022, and we will never forget the kindness that was shown to us during uncertain times. We heard so many horror stories from friends getting married and the struggles they'd faced with their venues during the pandemic, and I could honestly cry just thinking about how supportive Julia and the team have been towards us, especially when they were also facing their own challenges in the wedding industry.

    When our wedding day finally came around, the day was so chilled and relaxed and it felt like home. Everyone at Garthmyl Hall felt like part of the family, making us feel so welcome and going above and beyond to make the day special. From the countless cups of tea for the Grandparents, to ensuring the log baskets were always stocked up, every little detail was thought of and nothing was too much trouble! Special shout out to Het, Rhi, Andy and Alistair - total legends!

    Thank you for making our day well and truly worth the wait! We feel so privileged to have been able to spend our wedding weekend at Garthmyl Hall surrounded by such incredible people, and we can't wait to come back and visit soon! Thank you for everything!

    We have just got married at Garthmyl Hall and wow, what an absolutely stunning venue. Every single room is decorated with such attention to detail. When we arrived on the Friday afternoon, two of the rooms, including the honeymoon suite had been newly redecorated and they hadn't even looked like they needed it! This is just testiment to the staff at this venue. Lucieanne and Heather were absolutely amazing, they were worth the hire of the hall alone. They spent the whole weekend ensuring that everything went to plan. Nothing was ever too much to ask of them, from setting up the night before the wedding, helping us to make a buffet for family and also packing up the morning after for us, before we had even come down from our rooms! Even in the run up to the wedding their organisation was second to none, always on the other end of the phone if we needed them.
    We had an amazing weekend at Garthmyl, as did our guests, we felt quite sad to see our amazing weekend end there!

    What can we say that's not already been said! A simply incredible wedding venue that has provided us with a lifetime of special memories.

    After growing up near to Garthmyl Hall, we looked around a number of other wedding venues in the area. Needless to say, Garthmyl Hall was the standout winner and we are so glad we made the decision to celebrate our special day at this incredible venue, which has been so lovingly renovated and transformed by Julia.

    Having the whole venue from Friday afternoon right through to Sunday afternoon, does give you a real "wedding weekend." This truly does set it apart from other venues and it really was a home away from home for the whole weekend, with so many of our guests saying that they felt like they were on a big family holiday for the weekend.

    On the Friday evening, we had a lovely family BBQ in the grounds of the Hall with the lovely weather enabling us to sit outside and enjoy the gardens until 11pm. The wedding day itself could not have gone any better. Julia and her team were on hand throughout the day to ensure that everything was seamless. The whole team worked tirelessly in the background to ensure everything was just perfect. Breakfast on the Sunday morning was also lovely, with the same hardworking staff serving us with a smile at 9am despite having only gone to bed only a few hours earlier!!

    Nobody should hesitate to celebrate their special day at Garthmyl, you really won't regret it. A special mention must also go to the extremely professional way they dealt with the pandemic. We had to rearrange our wedding 3 times between April 2020 and July 2021, but Julia was so supportive and helpful throughout the entire process.

    So many of our guests said to us it was the "BEST WEDDING EVER!"

    What an absolutely beautiful and amazing place…. Having our daughters wedding here was the best decision ever.

    The hall is beautiful in the entirety. Every room has been decorated and furnished to the highest standard and in keeping with the grandeur it deserves.

    Julia knows her stuff!! From having a quick wedding rehearsal on the Friday night to providing a full English on the Sunday morning. Nothing was too much trouble for her throughout the whole weekend.

    We were able to arrive on the Friday afternoon, allowing us to get together with family in the evening for a pre wedding meal in the dining room and sort all those little things before the big day.

    The wedding day itself was just 'PERFECT', with Julia working her magic behind the scenes keeping everything going to plan!!

    I can't believe a week has gone by since my daughter was married here. I'm still walking round starry eyed.
    From the moment we arrived Julia made us feel at home.
    The location is stunning. The house is breathtaking. The grounds are a delight, made even more perfect by the sun shining down on us the whole weekend. The Garthmyll team, without exception, were helpful and friendly. A tribute to Julia.
    The bridal party got ready in the honeymoon suite. As you can imagine it was in a state of disarray as we left for the ceremony. Later in the day on returning to the room, as if by magic, it had been transformed. Such attention to detail.
    Julia herself. Welcoming, organised, positive, relaxed, fun and calming. Goes the extra mile to make you feel special. She certainly helped me with my pre speech nerves.
    Breakfast on Sunday was a room full of happy faces. Comments were made such as, €œbest wedding ever" and €œwe don't want to go home". Which, let's face it you don't have to say unless you mean it.
    So many happy memories were made this weekend.

    We chose Garthmyl Hall for our sons' wedding 2.10.21. Our two night stay was perfect from start to finish, it truly exceeded our expectations. Julia was supportive throughout from planning and during our stay she was simply €œthere but not there" we were safe in the knowledge that she was around if we might need here in any way yet she was not at all intrusive , a clever balance to strike! Julia's team throughout our stay were efficient, professional, polite and friendly. The Hall itself is beautiful, its very comfortable yet special. The stables and outbuildings have been beautifully refurbished to a high standard. I could not have wished for a better wedding venue and can totally recommend it. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to visit again one day.

What goes hand in hand with delicious food? A fine selection of dinks of course. There are three bars throughout the property, each with a different style and ambience. The Gentleman's Bar is close proximity to the Ballroom and Marquee, perfect for a pre ceremony drink to settle the nerves. The Cellar Bar is a fantastic location to impress your guests with cocktails, whereas the Summer House bar is ideal for a drinks reception bathed in the summer sun. Drinks packages are personalised to your requirements and can even include a bespoke cocktail.

Accommodation

Guest accommodation

There are ten luxurious bedrooms which can accommodate up to 21 guests. Each room is uniquely designed with individual furnishings and plenty of personal touches. Locally produced chocolates and Molton Brown toiletries come as standard in this luxe accommodation, ready to wow your guests. Additional guest accommodation is available in the converted stables for 24 guests. Please note the stables are not included within the hire charge and will be extra.

The Honeymoon Suite

Privately located in its own wing, the honeymoon suite is the perfect end to your wedding day. With its super king size bed, plush antique furnishings, dressing tables and chandeliers you'll be surrounded by exquisite luxury and comfort. There is also a private dressing room with a 7ft mirror and dressing table, the ultimate place to freshen up throughout the big day. Downstairs there is a humungous bathroom with a deluxe bath, double vanity and beautiful floral mural.
