History
Goodwood House has remained the family home to the Duke and Duchesses of Richmond since 1616. The first Duke of Richmond bought Goodwood Estate to pursue his love of foxhunting.
There is evidence that the house dates back as early as 1570 where floor plans show a small Jacobean house with gabled ends. Over time the house was modified with sash windows, extended and then extended some more. A Tapestry Drawing Room and two large wings were added to house the family's large art collection which was joined by copper-domed turrets.
Throughout the years various projects took place by the different Dukes. The eleventh Duke and Duchess of Richmond moved into the house in the 1960s and completed all the renovations and restored all the rooms to their former Georgian glory.
