About

In 1818, the Mercure Exeter Rougemont Hotel site was originally a House of Corrections, and until very recently the shackles in the cellar from the building still remained. Following the demolition of this building, The Devon and Exeter Hotel Company constructed this stunning Victorian hotel.

The hotel was designed by Mr Charles Edward Ware AICE of Exeter and was constructed by James Matcham. During the First World War, the hotel was used for many functions to help those affected by the war or for fund raising. More recently, the hotel has become renowned for being one of the most popular wedding venues in Exeter.

This venue offers delectable in-house catering from the hotel's restaurant, providing modern British and European cuisine.
