The Ferry House Inn

This secluded 16th-century country public house is situated in Harty, a hamlet on the Isle of Sheppey, right beside the Swale Estuary. With a range of wedding hospitality areas including a barn, a marquee, a gazebo and a private lounge, this unique venue is wonderfully adaptable and can be decorated precisely according to bespoke themes to create an idyllic wedding day.

There's a real sense of seclusion with weddings at The Ferry House; it is one of few operational buildings still in Harty, and they strictly host just one wedding per day. Offering restaurant-quality cuisine, either set or bespoke menus, a bridal suite, on-site guest accommodation and in nearby cottages, The Ferry House Inn has all the necessary facilities for an ideal wedding.

History

Known as Harty since 1610, the little hamlet has an intriguing history leading up to the establishment of The Ferry House Inn. Built in the 16th century, it served as a public house and thrived within the island's tiny community. Nowadays the population of Harty is still small, but the inn, taken over by its current owners in 2000, still prospers as a lovely rural pub and wedding venue.

The Ferry House Inn was voted Kent Dining Pub of the Year in 2014, and more recently was awarded an AA Rosette for their delicious cuisine. The team of chefs dedicate their expertise to the creation of sumptuous wedding breakfasts.

They present an extensive set menu, but are happy to tailor dishes to suit the bride's and groom's bespoke requirements. Child-friendly, The Ferry House Inn offers a cheaper children's menu. The chefs also supply a variety of typical evening reception treats, with buffet options or a hog-roast, bacon rolls or fish'n'chip cones.

Accommodation

The Ferry House Inn showcases a bridal suite, which boasts a super-king-size sleigh bed, a separate lounge and an ensuite bathroom with a large spa bath, and has conveniences such as a mini-fridge, bath robes and slippers, ceiling hook perfect for hanging dresses and suits and two big-screen TVs.

In addition, three king-size bedrooms and one twin bedroom, all ensuites, are also available on site. For larger wedding parties, nearby Mocketts Farm Cottages can provide extra accommodation for up to 40 guests. • Ashley and Dan - February 2016

Fantastic reception venue. Beautiful barn which serves as gorgeous rustic dining/reception area, which in its basic form is perfectly lovely, but once styled in the wedding decor it was just breathtaking! We got a private wedding bar in the barn, this kept all the guests in one part of the venue, creating a busy party atmosphere. The wedding coordinator, Kelci, was fantastic, from booking over a year in advance, right up to the day. She was so helpful and knowledgeable, she gave us lots of good advice which we followed, and the result was a wedding day so far beyond all of our expectations. The staff on the day of the wedding were fab, and the service was impeccable. We can't recommend The Ferryhouse Inn highly enough. So thank you to all at the FHI for helping us to have the very best day of our lives.

  • Christine and Tom - March 2016

€‹We have wanted to be married for 5 years, but with 2 children we had neither the money or time to plan our wedding. We came across The Ferry House Inn by recommendation and after we visited, we knew we had found our venue. Leading up to the wedding, we were supported by Kelci (our wedding planner) along with the other staff members to ensure everything went perfectly. We are very pleased with how our wedding went and the food was delicious! We have already recommended it as a venue for a friend's wedding. Couldn't be more happy. Thank you!

  • Justine and Liam - April 2016

€‹The Ferry House Inn seemed like such an easy choice as our wedding venue. The location, the venue, the food, the relaxed/informal atmosphere all played a part in making the most memorable day of our lives. We also can't thank the staff enough - they really do become a part of your day, they listen, they respond and most of all they understand. Our memories and those of friends and family will last for a a lifetime - Thank You!
