About

As you'd expect, this magical Tudor castle is immersed in history. King Henry VIII commissioned the building in 1510 and, a few years after, revisited with his second wife Anne Boleyn. Later on, in the 1550s, Queen Mary also resided at Thornbury for several years during her brief reign.

To this day, Thornbury Castle still retains many features of the original 16th-century edifice. Magnificent coats-of-arms, tapestries and beautiful paintings adorn the walls, and the majority of the beautiful chambers and bedrooms contain roaring log fires.

The castle offers three stunning rooms licensed to host civil marriage and partnership ceremonies for up to 70 guests, plenty of space for larger evening reception parties, and 27 breathtaking bedchambers, each with its own individual design and decor.

Catering is produced and served by a team of double AA rosette-winning chefs, and the wide-ranging selection of sumptuous menus can be further customised to meet your every requirement.

The Library

This intimate room is perfect for civil ceremonies owith your close friends and family.

Ceremony capacity - 18 guests.

The Lounge

This beautiful wood-panelled chamber, features an authentic Tudor fireplace and scenic views out onto the walled garden.

Ceremony Capacity - 24 guests

The Tudor Hall

The exposed stonework walls of the atmospheric early 16th-century Great Hall are decorated with imposing tapestries.

Ceremony capacity - 70 guests

Wedding breakfast capacity - 70 guests

Reception capacity - 120 guests

Created from fine, fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, all of Thornbury Castle's two AA rosette-winning and artistically presented wedding menus can be customised to your every requirement.

The castle has received The Wine Spectator 'Award of Excellence' for its extensive wine-list, some examples from which are produced directly from the venue's very own vineyard!
