About
Weald And Downland Open Air Museum was opened in 1970 in response to a growing awareness of the vulnerability of defunct structures, especially those of medieval origin, in a rapidly-changing rural environment. The aim was to establish a viable rescue centre where unique or extremely rare examples of such vernacular buildings could be preserved for future generations to enjoy.
Explore the museum's 40-acre setting and take a stroll down a historical memory lane, soaking up close to 1000 years' worth of tales of the countless working men, women and children who once inhabited or toiled in these superbly restored exhibit houses.
